What a brilliant homage to a worthy subject! Will you have an opportunity to spend time with Thomas Sowell? If you could film one or more conversations between you two, you could supplement the live performance with documentary shorts and amplify the reach of your project even more!
🤞 Even if the encounter isn't filmed, I hope you get a chance to connect with him directly. I'm sure he would be moved to know you're embarking on this historic project.
One hard-won bit of advice: Don't wait to reach out. Two of my great regrets in life are not following up in time after my favorite poet, Eavan Boland, had agreed to do an interview and not reaching out to express gratitude to my favorite nonfiction author, Oliver Sacks, before it was too late.
P.S. Thomas Sowell is known as "Saint Thomas" in our household :-)
What a great, terrific, outstanding, brilliant, fantastic project. Will contribute to this. God bless you Clifton, God bless you. Thomas Sowell is a national treasure!
William Barker, the new intern at FAIR in the Arts and I just crafted a quick curriculum for those who want to craft the performing arts without Government money and/or control.
You are the perfect example of who we were attempting to illustrate.
Love this! I've been talking to my girlfriend about how alternative art is growing and how exciting it is!
I'm certainly gonna contribute, but if I may be so bold: do you need a hand with costumes, Mr. Duncan? I work with classic menswear, I could at least point you in the right direction if you want it.
This is the project that made me FINALLY become a paid subscriber. Whether I agree with the politics of the art or the artists, I don’t think this industry can survive without a newfound commitment to ideological diversity.
Black Rednecks and White Liberals is one of Sowells most amazing works….among countless… His discussion of southern scotch Irish cavalier culture, and also the chapter on middle men minorities is amazing.
This is what it's all about. Building something outside of the industry. You'll also be helping other artists who, for whatever reason, want to "go indie." I'm so happy you're finding a way to return to your art.

Not sure if I'll be able to chat with him, but of course that would be nice

Please make this a Musical!
Even if a three hour fully musicalized version is not possible, you HAVE to share your amazing voice in at least ONE original song.
Thomas Sowell is one of my mentors. I could not be more excited about a project.
I just wrote a post on my stack…

Hi Jenny, I'm so glad you're excited, and thank you for your support.
I doubt a musical would be ideal, but that doesn't mean there can't be singing in the piece 😎
Ask Thomas what his favorite song is and sing a cover of it!
I bet it will be some classic jazz song that everybody already loves.
What a fantastic project. Thomas Sowell is a national treasure. Sent my contribution!
Thank you!
